Man facing drunk driving charges following car crash

On April 7, a New York man was taken into custody after he was accused of causing a car accident while under the influence of alcohol. Authorities claimed that the 30-year-old Bridgeport man also had cocaine and marijuana in his vehicle at the time of the crash.

Authorities responded to a call at about 5:30 a.m. The caller reportedly told police that a car accident had caused property damage near Interstate 684 in Harrison. When the police at the scene of the crash, they said it was determined that the accused man was under the influence of alcohol. As a result, he was taken into custody. Police then searched his vehicle and reportedly found 32 grams of cocaine, 2.3 grams of marijuana and several thousand dollars in cash.

He was taken to Westchester County Jail without bail after being arraigned in a Rye Brook court. He was ultimately charged with driving while intoxicated, possession of marijuana and possession of a controlled substance. His next court appearance was scheduled for April 10.

The consequences for driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs can be severe. In some cases, a person who is facing charges for drunk driving could lose his or her license, face jail time and major fines. A criminal law attorney may walk an accused person through the process of dealing with both the criminal case and the administrative case. Depending on the evidence the authorities have against the person, the attorney may negotiate with the administration to allow the person to keep at least some of his or her driving privileges while the criminal case is ongoing. When it comes to the actual charges, the attorney may be able to challenge the evidence or negotiate for a lighter sentence.
